We have the knowledge, resources and more than 200 years of collective experience, and we will work aggressively to find the best solution for you.

Throughout the history of the firm, the criminal lawyers at Fried Saperstein Abbatt have managed many complicated criminal issues on behalf of our clients. Whether it’s going to trial or working out a reduced charge, we have the right people to put on the case.
We know that these can be sensitive matters, so we handle each case discretely to avoid the public limelight. In some cases, avoiding the limelight is not possible. But we still strive for the best possible outcome.

One of our most public cases involved Bob Probert, best remembered as “the enforcer” on the Detroit Red Wings. In 1989, Probert, a Canadian citizen was charged with importing drugs while crossing the border from Canada to the United States. U.S. Customs agents found 14 grams of cocaine in Probert’s underwear. Probert could have been deported back to Canada, which would have meant he could not play for the Red Wings. Attorney Harold Fried not only defended the criminal charges, but he immediately filed an appeal, which allowed Probert to remain in the U.S. and not play, as scheduled, with his team. Until his case was resolved, Probert could not travel with the team to Canada. If he did, he would risk additional criminal charges and restrictions on travelling back to the U.S.

Following this incident, Fried spearheaded an effort to have a federal law passed allowing Probert to remain a Red Wing even though he could not return to Canada.

Personal Injury

The lawyers of Fried Saperstein Abbatt P.C. are highly skilled in handling personal injury cases.
